About Eastgate
Opened in 1958 as Eastgate Middle School, this center has been modernized from the second junior high school in North Kansas City Schools, to one of two sixth grade education centers in the district. At Eastgate, all students have the opportunity to expand their minds and prepare for their transition to either Maple Park Middle School, or Northgate Middle School, according to their feeder pattern, the following school year.
In 1979 the district made its first investment in computer technology with the purchase of Radio Shack's TRS-80s. During that same year, the Business Theme School at Oak Park High School also purchased four computers. But in 1980, grants made it possible for an Apple computer to be placed in one math class at both Antioch and Eastgate middle schools. Now, the district's 1:1 technology initiative has offered every student access to personal learning technology. Every student at Eastgate checks out an iPad to use for the school year both in the classroom and at home. Eastgate also utilizes the Positive Behavior Support continuum to support student behavior and hold every student to high expectations.
Currently, Eastgate Sixth Grade Center is home to more than 700 students who attended elementary schools in both the Winnetonka and North Kansas City feeder families.
